TUESDAY 25 FEBRUARY 2020, 10:00 – 11:00 AUDITORIUM IVAN PICTET | MAISON DE LA PAIX, GENEVA

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and tackling the major challenges affecting the context for implementing them – from the climate emergency to growing inequalities, changes in demography, new forms of violence and rapid changes in technology – require cooperation across borders, sectors and generations. But just when collective action is more needed than ever, support for global cooperation is flagging. Dialogue – and action – on global issues could not be more urgent.

To mark its 75th anniversary, the United Nations is launching a global conversation (UN75) on the role of international cooperation in building the future we want. The aim of this unprecedented initiative is to build a global vision of 2045, increase understanding of the threats to that future, and support enhanced international cooperation to realise that vision.

As part of this global conversation, the UN is organising a series of dialogues around the world, with a particular focus on youth. This event is the third dialogue to be conducted by the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

In the first part of the event, the Secretary-General will hear the views of six young people on issues such as the climate crisis, inequalities, human rights, disarmament, health and migration. In the second part, he will welcome comments from the floor and through social media (details will be announced separately).

This dialogue will be conducted in English and French (with no simultaneous translation). It is jointly organised by the Graduate Institute and the United Nations. REGISTER HERE
