Five years Grand Bargain – time to restart humanitarian reform?
taking place on 11-12 May 2021
May 2021 marks the fifth anniversary of the first World Humanitarian Summit and the agreed Grand Bargain. The Grand Bargain was planned as a key initiative to substantially reform humanitarian action based on ten commitments of governments and aid agencies. Now that its five-year timeframe is coming to an end, it is time to take stock: what has been achieved and what is yet to be done?
In a series of virtual discussion formats, we are going to explore these questions with a wide range of experts while focusing on key areas in a potential future of the Grand Bargain. These include
- humanitarian reform and debating the need for a restart
- localisation and discussing the new role of INGOs and intermediaries in locally led humanitarian action
- humanitarian funding and considering the role of donors as both drivers and inhibitors of reform.
