Samuel H., aka Brax, is THE French humanitarian cartoonist. Brought up on the Médecins Sans Frontières banner, he has since moved on to defend human rights with our friends at Amnesty International. And for more than 20 years, he has been using his unmistakable style of drawing and his acerbic verbiage that can be heard beyond the speech bubbles, first in the columns of Médecins du Monde’s Humanitarian magazine, and now in those of Alternatives Humanitaires. Completely Brax, delicately Samuel.

On 22 May 2025, we invited friends of the review to (re)discover Humanitarian Alternatives, a space for reflection and collaboration, during a federative event entitled ‘Humanitarian Alternatives: a space for reflection, our common good’. To celebrate the occasion, Brax joined us for a live drawing session! The result is 14 brand new drawings sketching Trump’s rise to power, the crisis in Gaza or the way NGOs are treated by the media…

Hello poets ! We came to replace you

– Well… It’s time to replace independent NGOs and the United Nations with private companies…
– …and armed thugs.

The great renunciation
– The fight against impunity ? Another Islamo-liberal-Marxist term coined in the aftermath of the Second World War!

– International law? Another gimmick invented by terrorists!

Facing New Imperialisms
– Independence ! Impartiality ! Neutrality ! And not getting shot at too much!

– Are NGOs and the United Nations terrorist organisations like the rest? For the debate this evening, a retired far-right mercenary and an opinion columnist from Franc-Tireur.

Privatisation of humanitarian aid
– Hello Gazans! We’ve come to sort out the good from the bad victims

– To make you truly independent, impartial, neutral and decolonial… We’re cutting off all your funds!
